Spring is officially here which means that everything around us is in a state of transition. Flowers are blooming, trees are growing their leaves back and baby animals are taking their first breaths. Spring is all about fresh starts and renewal but if we are completely honest, these changes aren’t always easy. True change is uncomfortable, takes time and more often than not is seriously inconvenient.
“STAYING SANE THROUGH ANY TRANSITION PERIOD IS ALL ABOUT MAINTAINING PERSPECTIVE.”
Right now I am going through the biggest transition ever: adulthood. If my current life status were a college course, it would be called “Grown-ish 101: Intro to Adulthood.” Our early twenties are a really weird phase because we are trying hard to appear like we know what we are doing but in reality, most of us are guessing a good 75% percent of the time (thank God for whoever created Google). I don’t fully consider myself an adult because I still live with my parents but I do have to stay on top of new responsibilities like paying my car note on time and making my own doctor’s appointments.
This awkward stage is extremely uncomfortable but I have to say that I am enjoying it so far. Staying sane through any transition period is all about maintaining perspective. Yes, you may have to sacrifice your social life a bit and work longer hours to establish yourself in your career but at least you have a job. I was listening to “20-something” by SZA the other day and was happy that I was at least able to say that at 22 I have something in my name (I purchased my first car this year). No matter what kind of transition you are going through remember that transition is dynamic- you are moving from one place to another. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says that “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” While you may be uncomfortable right now, change is an inevitable part of life so learn to embrace it!
