Styling a monochrome outfit is one of the easiest ways to elevate your look. The idea of wearing a single color from top to bottom may be scary but it doesn’t have to be. Styling a monochrome look takes the guesswork out of choosing your outfit. No need to worry whether colors and patterns go together when they are coordinated by color. But there’s more art to styling a monochrome look then just wearing a single color from head to toe. Here’s how to properly style a monochrome outfit:
Switch Up the Shades
Unless you are going for an all white or black look, you should absolutely mix different shades of your target color for your monochrome look. There’s no such thing as dark white or light black but every other color on the spectrum is fair game! Mix and match different shades of your target color to give your look some spice.
Play with Patterns (And Textures)
Monochrome doesn’t have to mean boring. Bring some life into your look by incorporating fun patterns and textures in your target color. Take a look at my pics. The army fatigue jacket is the perfect piece to complement my all green outfit and keeps me from looking like a kindergartener learning their colors by dressing themselves. If you have a textured or patterned piece that fits your color scheme, use it!
Pair Different Proportions
Monochrome outfits really look top notch when you play with the proportions of your pieces (I dare you to say that 5x fast)! Ultra wide leg pants look great with a cropped blouse or sweater in a similar color. Step away from your typical silhouette and use your monochrome outfit to really go for it with your look!
